Choosing traction
Ice cleats and spikes are for icy paths and packed snow on ordinary boots; crampons with front points are for steep ice and snow and need stiff boots made for them. Check the shoe sizes each size fits, and take them off on rock and indoors.
Eighteen spikes on two plates
- Toe and heel plates: the forefoot plate and the heel plate carry the 18 stainless steel spikes between them.
- Silicone harness: stretches over the toe and hooks round the heel, so no straps to buckle.
- Linked plates: rings join the plates to the harness, so the spikes follow the sole as it flexes.
- Packs small: the pair rolls up into the drawstring bag that comes with it.
