Choosing traction
Ice cleats and spikes are for icy paths and packed snow on ordinary boots; crampons with front points are for steep ice and snow and need stiff boots made for them. Check the shoe sizes each size fits, and take them off on rock and indoors.
Ten spikes on a web of chain
- Spikes: small steel plates under the sole carry the 10 spikes, spread from the toe to the heel.
- Chains: stainless steel chains link the plates to each other and to rings round the harness, so the spikes follow the sole as it flexes.
- Harness: one piece of stretchy silicone that stretches over the toe and round the heel, with no straps or buckles to fasten.
- Packs small: the pair folds into the drawstring bag that comes with it.
These are walking crampons for icy paths, frozen tracks and snowy trails; they have no front points and are not made for steep ice or climbing. They come in one size, stated by the supplier to fit EU shoe sizes 36 to 45. Pull them on before you reach the ice and take them off where it ends.

Frequently asked questions
Do they fit over hiking boots? The harness stretches over walking shoes and hiking boots; the supplier states one size fits EU shoe sizes 36 to 45.
Can I walk on rock or pavement in them? Only for a few steps. Take them off where the ice ends, as rock and tarmac blunt the spikes and feel unsteady underfoot.
How do I store them? Let them dry, then fold the pair into the bag so the spikes and chains do not catch on the rest of your pack.
