Choosing a tent

A tent's sleeps figure assumes people lying side by side with no gear inside; for room to keep packs dry, choose one person more. The water column in millimetres says how much water pressure the fabric resists and is the supplier's figure. Dry the tent fully before you store it.

A freestanding dome for two

  • Freestanding: two crossed aluminium poles hold the dome up before a single peg goes in.
  • Double wall: a mesh inner tent with a solid floor, under a separate flysheet.
  • Porch: the flysheet makes a porch about 40 cm deep in front of the door (supplier-stated).
  • Pitching: the inner tent clips to the poles, and webbing tabs with eyelets at the corners hold the pole tips.
  • Inside: a mesh storage pocket on the inner wall for a phone or a head torch.

Assembly

Lay out the inner tent, cross the two poles through the corner tabs and clip the inner tent to them, then throw the flysheet over and fasten it at the corners. Peg out the corners and the guy lines when it is windy.

Care and cleaning

Shake out sand and grit, and dry the tent fully before packing it away for storage. Wipe marks off with a damp cloth.
