Choosing a size

As a rule of thumb, a day hike needs 15 to 30 litres, a night or two away 30 to 50 litres, and a longer trip 50 litres or more. Measure your back from the bony point at the base of the neck down to the top of the hip bones and compare it with the pack's back length where it is given.

A daypack that packs into a pocket

  • Main compartment: a long zip round the curved top opens the whole pack.
  • Front pocket: a zipped pocket across the upper front for small things.
  • Side pockets: a small stretch pocket low on each side.
  • Straps: light mesh shoulder straps, adjustable in length.
  • Stuff sack: a drawstring sack in the same colour holds the folded pack.

It is about 20 L. The fabric is thin to keep it light and packable, so it is made for light loads and day trips rather than heavy gear, and it is not a waterproof bag.

Hand wash in cool water with a little mild soap and let it hang dry, unfolded, before packing it away.

How do I fold it away? Fold the pack into a narrow roll and push it into the drawstring sack, then pull the cord tight.
