Choosing a tent

A tent's sleeps figure assumes people lying side by side with no gear inside; for room to keep packs dry, choose one person more. The water column in millimetres says how much water pressure the fabric resists and is the supplier's figure. Dry the tent fully before you store it.

One hoop, one person, very little to carry

  • Bivy shape: a low tunnel, highest over your head and shoulders, tapering to the feet.
  • Single hoop: one aluminium hoop pole near the head end and a small hoop at the foot.
  • Fly: polyester with a PU coating and taped seams (supplier-stated).
  • Vent: a small vent flap on the sloping head panel helps with condensation.
  • Guy line and pegs: a guy line from the hoop and pegs for the corners are included.

It is 220 cm long, about 90 cm wide at the head and 50 cm high at the hoop, so you get in and lie down rather than sit up. The supplier gives about 690 g for the tent and about 830 g with poles and pegs, and no water-column figure: it is built for three-season use, not for storms.

Assembly

Lay the tent out, slide the hoop pole through its sleeve near the head end and the short pole at the foot, peg the four corners, then peg out the guy line from the hoop until the fly is taut.

Care and cleaning

Shake out grit and dry the tent fully before packing it away, so the coating does not stick or mould. Wipe marks off with a damp cloth; no machine washing.

Frequently asked questions

Can I sit up inside? No. At 50 cm high it is a shelter to lie in, like a bivy bag with a pole.

Does it need pegs to stand? Yes. It is not freestanding: the corners and the guy line are pegged to hold its shape.
