Choosing traction
Ice cleats and spikes are for icy paths and packed snow on ordinary boots; crampons with front points are for steep ice and snow and need stiff boots made for them. Check the shoe sizes each size fits, and take them off on rock and indoors.
Grip under the forefoot and the heel
- 24 spikes: a double plate under the forefoot and a smaller plate under the heel.
- Stainless steel spikes (supplier-stated): set in the plates, on a flexible rubber harness.
- Stretch harness: a TPE rubber frame that pulls over the toe and heel of the boot.
- Instep strap: a hook-and-loop strap across the top of the foot keeps the crampon from rolling.
- Two sizes: EU 32-39 and EU 40-45, sold as a pair.
These are walking crampons for icy trails, paths and gentle winter hikes, not technical crampons for steep ice or glacier travel. The supplier states the harness stays flexible down to -40 C (supplier-stated). Take them off before walking on rock, tarmac or indoor floors, where the spikes wear and slip.

Do they fit trainers as well as boots? Yes, the harness stretches over most walking shoes and boots with a rubber sole; a stiff, deep-lugged boot gives the firmest hold.
How do I dry them? Rinse off salt and grit, shake off the water and let them dry at room temperature before packing them away.
