Choosing traction
Ice cleats and spikes are for icy paths and packed snow on ordinary boots; crampons with front points are for steep ice and snow and need stiff boots made for them. Check the shoe sizes each size fits, and take them off on rock and indoors.
Keeps mud and snow out of your boots
- Wrap-around fit: the gaiter opens out flat and wraps round the leg, so it goes on and off without taking your boots off.
- Closures: two hook-and-loop bands with two buckle straps on the outer side of the leg.
- Under-boot strap: an adjustable strap with a buckle runs under the arch of the boot.
- Tongue: a rounded front panel covers the laces and the top of the foot.
- Fabric: a firm coated fabric with stitched channels and black binding on every edge.
They are gaiters, not rain trousers: they keep wet grass, mud, snow and thorns off the lower leg and the tops of your boots. One size wraps most adult legs; opened flat, one gaiter is about 50 cm wide at the top and 43 cm at the bottom. The Pack option sells one pair or two pairs.

Do I need to take my boots off to put them on? No. Open the gaiter, wrap it round the leg, close the bands and buckles, then fasten the strap under the boot.
Will they fit over thick trousers? Yes. They wrap round the leg and the bands adjust, so trousers can be tucked inside.
How do I clean them? Rinse off mud with clear water and let them dry naturally.
