Reading temperature ratings

Choose a bag whose comfort temperature is at or below the coldest night you expect. The limit temperature is the coldest a person curled up can get through, not a comfortable night. Ratings are the supplier's own unless a standard such as EN ISO 23537 is named.

A dry layer between you and the ground

  • Foil face: an aluminium-foil surface over PE foam, which reflects heat back towards you.
  • Damp barrier: keeps moisture from wet grass and tent floors off your bedding.
  • Bound edge: a black fabric edge runs all the way round.
  • Folds flat: folds or rolls up for carrying and storage.
  • Wipes clean: spills and mud wipe off the foil.
  • Four widths: 75 cm for one sleeper up to 200 cm for a family tent.

This is a liner and ground layer for summer and mild nights, not a sleeping pad on its own: at 2.5 or 3.5 mm it adds little cushioning. Pair it with an air mattress or foam pad, and choose the 3.5 mm version for a little more warmth underneath.

Care and cleaning

Wipe with a damp cloth and let it dry before folding. Keep it away from open flames and sharp stones, which can tear the foil.

Frequently asked questions

Which side goes up? Lay the foil side up to reflect body heat back towards you; lay it foil side down on very wet ground to keep the foam cleaner.

Which width fits my tent? Measure the tent floor: 75 or 100 cm suits a one-person tent, 150 cm a two-person tent and 200 cm a three- or four-person tent.
