Reading the figures

Brightness in lumens and run time are the supplier's figures and are measured on different modes: the brightest mode runs for the shortest time. Water resistance is an IPX rating under IEC 60529 where one is stated: IPX4 withstands splashes, not being submerged.

395 nm light for things that glow

  • 395 nm LEDs: Violet UV light that makes fluorescent stains, minerals, inks and dyes stand out.
  • Three sizes: 21 LEDs in a pocket body, or 51 and 100 LEDs in wider heads for bigger areas.
  • Aluminium body: A knurled aluminium alloy tube with a tail-cap switch.
  • Standard batteries: AAA or AA cells, depending on the model, from any shop.
  • Splash rating: Rated IPX4 by the seller for use on damp evenings.

UV torches show fluorescence best in the dark; in daylight the glow is faint. Batteries are not in the box. Sizes, weights and the IPX4 rating are the seller's figures. Never shine the light into anyone's eyes.

Wipe the lens with a dry cloth. Take the batteries out if you store the torch for several weeks.

Frequently asked questions

Which model should I choose? The 21 LED torch fits a pocket; the 51 and 100 LED models light a wider patch of floor or ground.

Does it work in daylight? The glow is easiest to see in a dark room or outdoors at night.

Are batteries included? No. Buy AAA cells for the 21 LED model and AA cells for the larger two.
