Choosing a size
As a rule of thumb, a day hike needs 15 to 30 litres, a night or two away 30 to 50 litres, and a longer trip 50 litres or more. Measure your back from the bony point at the base of the neck down to the top of the hip bones and compare it with the pack's back length where it is given.
A hip belt that carries the load
- Zipped lid: The top lid has its own zip pocket for a map, snacks or a head torch.
- Padded hip belt: Wide padded wings wrap your hips, with a small zip pocket on the belt.
- Bungee front: Elastic cord laced across the front holds a shell or a sit pad, tightened with a toggle.
- Lower zip section: A zip low on the front opens the bottom of the pack, handy for a sleeping bag.
- Side storage: Mesh pockets take bottles, and buckled straps on each side cinch the load.
Load the heavy items close to your back and tighten the hip belt first. It is a big trekking pack with a hip belt, built for full loads rather than a light city day.

Does it have a hip belt? Yes. A padded hip belt with wide wings and a zip pocket carries much of the weight.
Can I reach the bottom without unpacking? Yes. A separate zip on the lower front opens the base of the pack.
Where do water bottles go? Two mesh pockets on the sides each take a bottle.
